Darin Hamm is the Teaching Pastor at New Heights Church. Darin comes to us from a successful ministry in Kansas where he felt God preparing him for a particular place. When he arrived at New Heights, he believed that this was that place.
Darin received his initial degree in Graphic Design from Oklahoma Christian University and spent 10 years in the design industry. During this time God prepared him and then called him into full-time ministry. He is currently working towards a Masters of Ministry from Lubbock Christian University with an emphasis in counseling.
Darin has been married for ten years to his wonderful wife, Lori. They have three children, Nathan, Madison, and Morgan. Lori keeps very busy with family and refereeing volleyball and basketball. She considers herself Darin’s closest assistant and he sees her as his “Aaron,” without the golden calf incident.
Darin was drawn to New Heights in October of 2004 and looks forward to a long ministry in the Owasso area. He was actually called to ministry very early in life, but lived in the world until his heart was pricked at the age of 22. These experiences have given Darin a unique understanding of the gift of grace extended by the Savior and an ability to understand where people have been.
Darin wants to personally invite you to worship with us at New Heights, where we seek to remove all barriers between God and man.

Darin,
I have just gotten around to reading your bio… I attended OCC in the middle 70’s and have a very different path to my ministry. I worked in digital printing for years, first with Kinko’s for 12 years, then with Ikon. My move to Ikon was into high speed digital production for a mid sized 24/7 print center that put out all of the output for a company named Element K. They produced all kinds of interactive media that taught people everything from what a mouse was to how to program in C++…
Long story short, in my mid 40’s my wife and I decided that we wanted to find a way to use our talents more for God and I was all prepared to return to school (Harding) and work toward a degree in family therapy. Well, our son met a young woman who had some attachments to a little church on the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina. She, knowing that we were serious in our quest to do more for God, prodded us to contact her father, who was heading up a search for a minister to come here. NOBODY coming out of school was interested (not enough money) and all he was getting was responses from older men in their 60’s or 70’s.
The idea was to find some one young enough to come here and stay for many years. We had prepared informally for all of our lives, being involved with youth ministry, song leadership, teaching classes of all ages, and helping to establish (against some resistance) a small, home study group ministry. The church in Cherokee hadn’t had a full time minister for 3 years, so we had a core group of 4 to start with. The group is still small (24 or so local people) and the people of Cherokee are poor and spiritually struggling, but we are here and are in it for the long haul.
My mom said it best, “Son, it is only in the last 30-40 years that we have depended on ‘Christian Colleges’ and ‘Preaching Schools’ to supply our pulpits. If you feel the desire to go, then go! God will lead you and put the words in your mouth if you’ll just put your trust in Him.”
That is how we got here… with no ‘formal’ training but with a lifetime of preparation by Godly men and women all around us, helping us grow and develop. When I was at OCC, I lived in ‘A’ dorm… the oldest but coolest place on earth. The rich kids went into the newer dorms, all with A/C but the group in our dorms were a fine group of young men. I could go on, but I just find it ironic that God introduced me to you and your blog, gave us this thing in common, and sent me here when you need encouragement most.
More walk, less talk…

Thanks Jim. I never made A dorm. I started in C and then lived off campus. My last year I lived in C again, long story.
I really want to learn more about your ministry.
